Mary Jo High, 78, of Lincoln died on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her daughter’s home in LaVista, Nebraska. She was born on August 26, 1938 to LaVerne and Sarah (Somers) Hanchett in Lincoln, Michigan. When she was 11 years old her Mom and Dad divorced and she was raised with her step-dad Lyle Tacia. She married Maurice High on November 17, 1956. She became a military wife and traveled to many different places around the world before returning back to Lincoln, Michigan. She worked as the secretary in the counseling office at Alcona High School until she retired in 1998. She loved being around all the students. She loved spending her winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama where the weather was milder. She and Maurice made a lot of great friends in Alabama. Mary is survived by her daughter Linda Burke of LaVista, Neb.; two Grandsons, Warren (Tina Scott) Burke and Brian (Mandi Simmons) Burke; and one great-grandson, Blake Burke. She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice on August 3, 2015 and by one son Robert High on November 5, 2011. Friends may call on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville. Pastor Ken Krause will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to the church.
