Helen Lorraine Goddard, 73, a long-time resident of Black River area passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. Helen was born on January 31, 1943, in Flint, Michigan to the late Wallace and Martha Pierce. She was the youngest of 5 girls in the family. At an early age, she professed her belief in Jesus Christ. She built her life on the principles set forth in the Bible and loved people. She married Gary Goddard on December 23, 1961. She committed the years of raising her three kids as a homemaker. Later, she served as a nurse's aide for many years caring for others. She loved children and enjoyed teaching Sunday School as well as kindergarten classes at Alpena's homeschool group. She was passionate about teaching children about God's love. Helen loved to read, cook and listen to music. She also was an amazing pianist and spent many evenings playing the classics on her piano. She loved her family and desired that all would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Martha Pierce (Oliver) and her four sisters, Betty Morris, Nola Mathison, Donna Campbell and Sharon Bird. Helen is survived by her loving husband, Gary Goddard, 2 sons, Jeffrey (Shelley) Goddard, Steven Goddard and daughter, Jennifer (David) Myers; 11 grandchildren, Chad, Nathan, Jessica, Kelsey, Amanda, Lindsey, Symantha, Logan, Caleb, Tara, Karli, 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 11:00 to 1:00 at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln with the funeral service following at 1:00 with Pastor Scott Joy officiating. A meal will follow at Word of Life Church in Alpena.
