Robert D. Wyns, 79, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Hilltop Manor in Roscommon. Born October 9, 1936, to Frank and Gladys Wyns in Shelby, he was raised there. Robert received his bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University and his master’s degree from Central Michigan University. He was a teacher at Alcona High School and was married to Christine Gozdor in Harrisville on June 11, 1960. They moved to Alpena, where he taught at Alpena high school, retiring in 1998. Both Robert and Christine enjoyed traveling, camping, cross country skiing, golf, bridge, and pinochle, and spent winters in Sebring, Florida. Mr. Wyns is survived by his daughter, Krisha (Charles) Smith of Harrisville; his son, Eric (Tammie) Wyns of Westminster, Colorado; three sisters, Carol Inglis of Shelby, MI, Leta (Frank) Mitteer of Hart, and Sandra (Leo) Dean of Shelby; one brother, Gordon (Pat) Wyns of Shelby; five grandchildren, Neil, Ryan, and Karsen Smith, Nikole Compton, and Erika Rice; eight great grandchildren, Devin, Cuyler, Stella, and Harrison Smith, Austin and Maddie Compton, and Sophie and Lucy Rice. He is preceded in death by his wife, Christine on September 15, 2011; one grandson, Joshua Abernathy; three brothers, Sam, Barney, and Steve Wyns; and two sisters, Phyllis Griffin and Marilyn Cornett. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
