Betty Jane Ross,96,died Tuesday, May 22, 2009 at Jamieson Nursing Home in Harrisville. Born February 4, 1913 in Union County Indiana to Herbert and Adelaide(Pigman) Gardner, she attended Oberlin College of Oberlin Oh. and The International Business School in Ft. Wayne Indiana. She was married to George Ross who preceded her in death in 1978. Betty moved to Alpena in 1979 from Ohio City,Ohio. Betty was an accomplished pianist. She taught piano and enjoyed performing. She retired after many years with Federal Mogul as an administrative assistant. She was a member of the Alcona County Domestic Engineers Extension Club,a life member and past Worthy Matron of Order of Easter Star,Hyler Chapter 452,the First Presbyterian Church of Alpena and its womens association. Survivors include two daughters, Susanne Swayze and Rebecca (Richard) Counsellor of Hubbard Lake, four grandchildren, Shawn (Gail) Thornton, Steven Swayze,James Counsellor and Kelly (Craig) Chunchick and five great grandchildren,Alex and Lauren Silver, Taylor Swayze, and Allison and Brandon Chunchick. Graveside servives will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery,Spruce, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 1:00 P.M.,Rev Sanford K.H.Wright officiating. Memorials suggested to St. Joseph Hospice of Tawas City or to the First Presbyterian Church of Alpena.
