Frederick "Fritz" F. Travis

Frederick F. “Fritz” Travis, 75, of Spruce, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Tucson, Arizona, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 18, 1934 in Mikado, MI, he was a lifelong resident of Alcona County. A skilled auto mechanic, Fritz very much enjoyed working on cars. He retired from Alcona Motors, and continued to tinker on engines in his home garage. On August 11, 1979, he married Kay (Teeple) MacGregor in Harrisville. They were residents of Spruce, and wintered in Tucson. Fritz and Kay served as volunteer “Camp Hosts” at the Harrisville State Park, where Fritz deemed himself the “Official Fire Builder”. He was often seen around Harrisville on his scooter, and was a member of the “AARP’s Angels” scooter group. Fritz is survived by his wife; Kay, daughter; Cheryl Travis of Mikado, two sons; Kelvin (Sandy) Travis of Lincoln, and Leroy (Beth) Travis of Harrisville, one stepdaughter; Muriel (Michael) Goddard, two stepsons; Gordon (Erin) MacGregor, and Richard (Barb) MacGregor, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren, three brothers; Lonnie (Sandy) Travis of Mikado, Donald (Lois) Travis of Mikado, and Richard (Pam) Travis of Harrisville, and two sisters; Betty (Bill) Kenitz of Reed City, and Linda (Terry) Ayres of Alpena, and three sisters in law; Ruth Travis, Dolores Travis, and Beverly Travis. He was preceded in death by his first wife; Betty Spencer, four brothers; Leonard, Robert, Billy, and Allen Travis, two sisters; Verna(Bill) Hopp and Dora Travis, and one step daughter; Beth MacGregor. Cremation arrangements have been made through Gillies Funeral Home,Lincoln. A Memorial Service for Mr. Travis will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009, 11:30 A.M. at the Harrisville United Methodist Church, Rev. Tracy Brooks officiating.His family will receive vistors beginning at 10:00 A.M. Memorial donations suggested to the Harrisville United Methodist Church.
