Theodore “Tom” Miks, 83, of Harrisville, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at his home. Born January 13, 1933, to John and Sophia (Brandeis) Miks in Lincoln, he was a lifelong resident of the area. Tom served in the U.S. Air Force, with the 3rd Air Division, and later in the U.S. Army. He worked for Alcona County as a property appraiser. He married Mildred Badenhoop on December 7, 1957 in Barton City, and they enjoyed performing country music together. Tom was a talented musician, playing his guitar and singing at many local churches and events. He was active in many community organizations, especially the Burger Wiedbrauk VFW Post #8135 of Barton City, where he served as chaplain, and was a past commander. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lincoln. He is survived by his daughter, Melody (Jeffrey) Claus of Pinellas Park, FL, three grandchildren, Adam Edwards, Harmony (Mark) Truman, and Jonathan (Marissa) Claus, four great grandchildren, Katie Edwards, Evan Thomas Truman, and Chad and Derek Claus, two sisters, Mildred Barber and Sophie Miner, and two brothers Gerald and Johnny Miks. He was preceded in death by his wife of January 3, 2003, his daughter, Kathy Miks Edwards, and six brothers and sisters. There will be a memorial service Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln. Dr. Rev. Arie Van Brenk will officiate. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
