Howard O. Phinney, 85, of Harrisville, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at his home. Born April 8, 1930, to Nelson and Louetta (Rifenbark) Phinney in Barton City, MI, he was a lifelong resident of the area. Howard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On December 23, 1950, he married Marjorie Bugg. Howard worked as an operating engineer, and was a member of the Local #324 for 65 years. He was a member of the Burger Wiedbrauk VFW Post #8135 in Barton City, and enjoyed hunting. He was also a talented welder, and enjoyed fabrication and mechanics, especially working on old tractors. Howard is survived by three sons, David (Ruth) Phinney of Lincoln, Lester (Wendy) Phinney of Ortonville, and Melvin (Casie) Phinney of Lincoln, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three sisters, Mick (Howard) Cantrell of Texas, June (Lee) Fisher of Texas, and Audrey Bugg of Marysville, and one sister-in-law, Alma Phinney of Pinconning. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie on June 2, 2005, his daughter, Bonnie Marie Phinney in 1975, and his brother George Phinney. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Private services have been held. Memorial donations are suggested to the Burger Wiedbrauk VFW Post #8135, Barton City.
