Richard “Rick” T. Rickert Sr., 68, of Mikado, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born July 5, 1947, to Harry and Helen (Metsa) Rickert in Detroit, he was raised in Livonia. Rick served in the US Army during Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1968. He worked as a dingman for Michigan Truck. On October 11, 1986, he married Susan Swales in Harrisville. They were residents of Napoleon, MI, and moved to Mikado in 2002 when he retired. Rick was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports. He enjoyed woodworking, and liked to fix motors. He was a member of the American Legion, Mikado Post #254, and of the Disabled Veterans of America. He was also active with the VFW Burger Wiedbrauk Post #8135 in Barton City. He is survived by his wife, Susan, daughter, Bethany Leann (Donny Bissonette) Rickert of Oscoda, three sons, Richard T. (Dana) Rickert Jr. of Swartz Creek, Ronald Dean Rickert of Williamston, and Matt James Rickert of Brooklyn, MI, six grandchildren, Morgan (Joe) Rohen, Hannah, Brenden, Kaylie, and Alyssa Rickert, and Jaydyn Pukall, two sisters, Lois (Jim) Donovan, and Carole (Lee) Clacher, his daughter-in-law, Dawn Mayett, his father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Elaine Swales, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bob Rickert. Mr. Rickert is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call on Tuesday, December 22, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 23, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Rev. Mary Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Mikado Cemetery.
