Arthur L. Somers

Arthur L. Somers,72,of Lincoln died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Speciality Select Hospital in Saginaw. He was born December 8, 1936 to Elgin and Estella(Reinbold) Somers in Lincoln. A lifelong lincoln resident, Art was a mechanic for Somers Mobil Station as a teenager, working there until 1979 when he went to work for Alcona Motors. Retiring in 1999, Art was village president of Lincoln from Jan. 1, 1990 until Nov.1,1999. He had served on the Alcona County Commission on Aging since October 2002, presently serving as its Vice President. An avid race fan, Art drove race cars and for many years went to car shows with his 1965 Malibu. He was a bowler and played bingo. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy (Mike) Morris of Lincoln, a son, Mark Somers of Lincoln, a sister, Mary Rivera of Lincoln and a brother Fred (Nancy) Somers of Flushing and four grandchildren. A granddaughter Christina a sister, Sandra and a brother Edward preceded him in death. Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2009 from 2-8 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
