Verna L. Travis

Verna L. Travis, 90, of Mikado, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Lincoln Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Born December 6, 1924 to Albert and Eva (LaPage) Benson in Black River, MI, she was raised there. On December 21, 1942, she married Milton Travis in Ossineke, and they were residents of Mikado. A devoted homemaker, she also worked on the family farm. Verna was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. She was a member of the Friendship Club, and was a charter member of the Mikado Area Development group, and of the Mikado Goodfellows. Verna loved playing bingo, cards and marbles. She also enjoyed sewing, crochet, needlepoint, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Karen Travis of Scottsdale AZ, her son Herb (Cheryl) Travis of Oscoda, son-in-law Dan Pippin of Mikado, 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Gappa, Gloria Sanford, and one sister-in-law, Jane Benson. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 31, 2004, by her daughters Kathy and her husband Dave McNeal, and Diane Pippin, one sister, Rose Alexander, and two brothers Howard and Chester Benson. Mrs. Travis is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a parish prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10:00 until the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Mikado. Rev. Robert Bissot will officiate.
