Elizabeth "Betty" Gehres

Elizabeth (Betty) Virginia Gehres, 88, of Harrisville died Friday, January 9th, 2009. Betty was born August 30, 1920 in Harrisville, Michigan; the daughter of Ernest and Mary Green. Betty graduated from Harrisville High School. She married Martin Gehres in 1939. Martin was the Sheriff of Alcona County and Betty managed the Food Service and Housekeeping Services at the Alcona County Jail for 20 years. Betty was an active member of Harrisville Methodist Church. She loved to participate in sports and was an avid spectator. She also enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and spending time with her family. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her four children; Barbara (Don) Sullivan, M. Carl (Carol) Gehres, Joan (Sylvan) Toombs, Larry Gehres; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Evelyn) Green and Tom (Carolyn) Green. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, and two brothers – Edward Green and Victor Green. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisville Methodist Church.
