Lawrence Earl Rapson, 91, of Mikado, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born July 6, 1917 to Harry E. and Elsie L. (Humphrey) Rapson in Bad Axe, MI he was raised there. Lawrence served in Michigan’s Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1938. His experience in the CCC inspired his daughter, Sandra, to write “The Three C’s” which she dedicated to him. Lawrence moved to Warren, where he married Grace Avalon Boyd on October 20, 1941. He joined the United States Army, and served in WWII, from 1943 to 1945 as a Military Policeman. He received a Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. Lawrence drove a Steel Truck for Mt. Elliot Steel until 1979, when he retired to Mikado. Lawrence was a former member of VanDyke Baptist and Faith Baptist Churches, he was active in the adult education programs, and drove the church bus for 20 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mikado. He is survived by his wife Grace, three daughters; Sandra D. Campbell, Judith M. Prell, Debra L. Zebari, three sons; Larry J., Clyde A., and Ricky S., Rapson, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, and two sisters; Frances Hickey and Bernice Wilde. He was preceded in death by his son; Danny F. Rapson, three sisters; Minnie Greenlee, Grace Rogers, and Betty Juzek-Pierce, and five brothers; Durward, Thomas, Lee, J. Laury, and Gerald Rapson. Mr. Rapson is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Friday, January 9, from 2 until 9 pm. Visitation continues on Saturday, January 10, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mikado from 10 am until the Funeral Service at 11 am. Pastor Tim Steiner and Pastor Larry Richmond will officiate. Burial will be in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley MI.
