George Leo Van Norman, Jr. born January 5, 1942, Seradella Farm, Oscoda, MI, died on December 16, 2008 at his home on Ziegler Trail. George leaves a legacy of accomplishments- organist for St. John Episcopal Church since he was sixteen years old, finally retiring at the age of 58. His musical talent was appreciated by many who were so fortunate to have known him. He completed a long 26 year career at NAF Wurtsmith AFB Personnel, receiving many awards and recognition for his outstanding contributions and service to the mightiest Air Force in the world. He remained an active outdoor sports enthusiast including hunting, fishing, and the ever-so-loved “morel hunt”. He will be remembered by his family and friends as the most welcoming, hospitable host, as he entertained, cooking lavish meals in his family’s heritage log cabin built in 1947 by his father and brothers. He is survived by his sister; Carol Elaine Hodges (Hugh) of Oscoda, brothers; Burt Edward Poland (Cheryl) of Alaska, Neil Geordie Poland (Paula) of Lewiston, Dr. Alan Blair Poland (Elizabeth) of Berlin, Germany, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving parents George Leo Van Norman Sr., and Fern Elva Lovelace Van Norman, sister; Patricia Ann Fowler (Albert), and brothers; Jack Virgil Poland (Tomiko) and Gordon Wayne Van Norman (Sandy). May the forgiveness of hearts bleed into the souls of loved ones. George left this world in the grace of the Lord and remains forever in Peace. He will be dearly missed. Memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, who gave so much support to the family as their dearest George had “gone from their sight”. Funeral Services were held on Monday, December 22, at St. John Episcopal Church in Oscoda, Fr. John MacDonald officiated. Burial was in Pinecrest Cemetery.
