Charlotte M. Hilts, 81, of Harrisville, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Jamieson Nursing Home. Born March 21, 1933 to George and Grace (Apsey) Emerick in Harrisville, she has been a resident of Alcona County for most of her life. Charlotte was an English teacher at Alcona High School, and retired in 1994. In 1994, she married Richard Hilts. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, and of its choir. She was a member of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Charlotte loved to garden, and always had a large garden full of flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Dick, one daughter, Stephanie (Chuck) Byce of Barton City, one son, David (Patti) Gipson of Lincoln, two granddaughters, Nicole Valley and Tara Peterson, three great grandchildren, one brother, Robert (Janice) Emerick of Harrisville, and three nieces, Susan (Mike) Maturen, Katherine (Randy) Thompson, and Anita Mardney. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Gipson in 1991. Visitation is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville. Burial will be in Springport Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations suggested to Alcona Humane Society.
