Priscilla Jean Roman

May 16, 1934 — November 10, 2008

Priscilla Jean Roman (Cindy) passed away on November 10, 2008 at her home of eight years at 1100 North Lake Huron Shore Drive, Harrisville, Michigan. Prior to that, she resided in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She was born in Port Huron, Michigan on May 16, 1934. Her parents were Margaret and Harry Hickey. She graduated from Michigan State University in June 1956 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a strong minor in Art. Following graduation, she taught kindergarten and first grade in the Warren, Michigan, Consolidated Schools. She loved teaching, especially the kindergarten children, and excelled at special projects such as coordinating school plays and other all-school events. She spent much of her life as a fulltime mom and homemaker, caring for her children with great love and devotion. Later in life, to help out with the family’s educational costs, she was proud to work as a bartender at the Silverdome. She loved the excitement and thrill of meeting celebrities and often entertained family and friends with her stories about them. She also worked in a flower shop, a doctor’s office and hospital, and tutored school children. She loved art, music, nature – especially Lake Huron – and any kind of animal, domestic or wild. She had a natural talent for art, painting in oils and watercolors, and music, playing both the piano and organ in church when she was growing up in Port Huron. She was a member of Saint Irenaeus Catholic Church in Rochester Hills, Michigan for many years, where she served on the Parish Council. More recently, she was a member of Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Harrisville, Michigan. She was married to Walter J. Roman on August 2, 1958, recently celebrating their 50th Anniversary. She was the mother of five children; Kelly L. (Eric) Krause (Sanford, Michigan), W. James (Sara) Roman (Troy, Michigan), Katherine P. (Paul) Hogan (Ridgewood, New Jersey), Colleen J. (Paul) Morgan (Kalamazoo, Michigan) and Thomas J. Roman (East Aurora, New York). She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Michael Hickey (Rochester, Michigan), and sisters, Judy Guertin (Port Huron, Michigan), and Margaret O’Brien (Port Huron, Michigan). She was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren; Christopher Krause, Brandon, Krause, and Dominic Krause (all of Sanford, Michigan), Kelen Roman, Brenden Roman, and Kaitlyn Roman (all of Troy, Michigan), Caroline Hogan and Dylan Hogan (of Ridgewood, New Jersey), Sean Morgan, Erin Morgan, Robert Morgan, and James (aka Seamus) Morgan (all of Kalamazoo, Michigan). Grandchild number thirteen is scheduled to be born in November 2008. She had a way of making lasting friendships because of her own friendly and outgoing demeanor. In spite of hardships due to health issues which handicapped her in many ways, she was always optimistic and responsive to others needs and interests. She will be sorely missed by all the members of her family and many friends. Mrs. Roman is at Gillies Funeral Home, Harrisville where visitation will take place on Thursday, November 13, from 3 until 6 pm, and again on Friday, November 14 from 4 until 8 pm, with a Rosary Service at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 am, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Rev. Lawrence Boks will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.
