Ruth Olson

Ruth H. Olson, 88, of Harrisville, died Wednesday October 22, 2008 at Jamieson Nursing Home. She was born October 23, 1919 in Harrisville to Otto Sr. and Astrid (Moeller) Klein. Ruth grew up on her parents Springport Dairy Farm, and graduated from Harrisville High School in 1937. On April 24, 1943 she married James Olson. Ruth was a lifelong member of Harrisville United Methodist Church and at the time of her death was the oldest living member. In May of 1947 she was a charter member of Alcona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6466 Auxiliary, served several terms as its president, and later became a lifetime member. Ruth is survived by three daughters: Ellen (Dan) Smith and Cindy (Jim)Arlt, both of Alpena, and Kaye (Phil) Lince of East Tawas; a brother Otto Jr. “Bud” (Vera) Klein of Harrisville; sister-in-law LaJean Klein of Harrisville; brother-in-law Art Jr.(Shari) Olson of Ossineke; cousins Carol and Mike Johnston of Harrisville; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James on October 20, 1995; an infant daughter, Mary Margaret; a brother, Viggo; and her parents. Visitation will be on Monday October 27 from 4-8:00PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Harrisville with a VFW Memorial Service at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be at 11:00AM Tuesday Oct. 28, 2008 from the Harrisville United Methodist Church. Rev. Tracy Brooks officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Springport Cemetery.
