Dorothy I. Filer, 87, of Greenbush, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 at St. Mary’s of Saginaw. Born September 5, 1927 to Lowell and Elsie (Leflan) Mitchell in East Detroit, she was raised there. On October 11, 1947, she married Charles E. Filer in East Detroit, and they were residents of Rochester and Almont, MI before moving to Greenbush in 1976. Charles preceded her in death on January 26, 2000. Dorothy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Almont, of the Greenbush Historical Society, and enjoyed bowling. She loved spending time at her pond in her backyard, and enjoyed gardening. She was a devoted homemaker, who loved her family dearly, and will be sorely missed. Dorothy is survived by six children, Michael (Cheryl) Filer of Fort Gratiot, MI; Karen Rabin of East Point, MI; Laura (Steve) Lauwers of Greenbush; Cindy (Dean) Nations of Harrisville; Brian Filer of Oscoda; and Todd Filer of Greenbush, her special nephew, Kenneth Griffin of Mikado, 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, one brother, Lowell (Shirley) Mitchell Jr. of Texas, and her special feline friends Tiger and Sally. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Filer, her son, Mark Filer, and her sister Evelyn Schonk. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
