Marie Woods

Marie Woods, a lifetime resident of Mikado MI, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City, MI at the age of 92. She was born on January 23, 1922 in Mikado, MI to John & Elizabeth Beloskur. Marie married Edward Woods on February 8,1941 in Napolean, OH. They were happily married for 61 years. Eddie and Marie operated Woods Hardware in Mikado from 1945-1965 and Marie was a member of the Eastern Stars. Marie lived her entire life in Mikado and was dedicated to her community. She was an avid gardener. One of her other great interests in life was traveling and seeing the world with her husband. In many cases they brought their travel experiences home to Mikado, including an often told story about their trip to the King Ranch in Texas where they purchased Santa Gertrudis cattle and transported them back to Michigan in the back of a pickup truck. Eddie and Marie’s farm was the first in the state of Michigan to own the breed. While in public her husband was the patriarch of the family, Marie was the strong, quiet leader of the household holding court over Saturday morning family breakfasts serving up warm, fresh made Waffles with homemade jam, starting a family tradition that still carries on today throughout the Woods family tree. She taught her children and their children to work hard, plan for your future, and above all else show love for your family through their best and worst days. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband Eddie; and her son Leslie “Butch” Woods. She is survived by her son William (Susan) Woods of Mikado, MI; daughter-in-laws Vickey Woods and JoAnn Harmon, her grandchildren Billy Woods, Kevin Woods, Evan Woods, Natalie (Rich Schaefer) Woods and Heather (Tim) Potts, and her great-grandchild Hannah Potts. Mrs. Woods is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will be on Friday, October 24, from 3:00 until 9:00 P.M. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 25, beginning with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 10:30 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Edward Morrison will officiate.
