John W. Mitchell

John W. Mitchell, 89, of Hubbard Lake passed away Saturday, October 04, 2014, at his home. Born May 3, 1925 to James Gray and Grace (Wardrop) Mitchell in Ferndale, MI, he was raised there. John served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Enterprise. On May 7, 1949, he married Leah Schiedel, and they were residents of Clawson, Mi. John worked for General Motors as a pattern maker. He retired in 1987, and moved to Hubbard Lake, MI, where he enjoyed boating and golfing. He was a member of the Ossineke Eagles, Aerie 3762, and of the American Legion, St. Petersburg, FL. He is survived by four children, Sharon (Kim) Thompson of Spruce; John C. Mitchell of Clawson; Carol (Chuck) Miknis of Battle Creek; and William Mitchell of Hubbard Lake, five grandchildren, John Kloka; Kimberley Mitchell; Elizabeth Thompson (Kevin Crevier); Jeffrey Thompson; and Steven Miknis, six great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah on August 24, 2004, two sisters and one brother. Private memorial services have been held.
