The Reverend William Blodgett Klatt, 88, died September 16, 2014 at Jamieson Nursing Home in Harrisville, MI. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 22, 1926, son of William Edward Klatt and Gladys Irene Blodgett. He married Ina Ione Radford at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor Michigan on July 15, 1957. She predeceased him in October of 1998. After High School graduation in Saginaw, he was in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 serving in the Postal Service on troop ships returning servicemen to the United States. Returning from service he helped his father build log cabins for his resort on what was then Lake Street if extended north of Harrisville. Following a year at Central Michigan he attended the University of Michigan and received a Bachelor of Design in 1952. He attended the Church Divinity School of the West from 1952 to 1957. He was ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan in 1957 and ordained Priest by Rt. Reverend Archibald Crowley in 1958. He served as Missionary in Charge of St. Paul’s, Brighton, MI from 1957 to 1960. He was Episcopal Chaplain at the University of Iowa from 1961 to 1962 and Chaplain at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana while also Rector at Good Shepherd Church from 1967 to 1983. He was Rector of St. Barnabas Church, Gary Indiana from 1982 to 1988. He was Supply Priest to St. Andrews Church, Harrisville, Michigan from 1990 to 2000. He was an accomplished artist finding joy in his creations, exploring and perfecting his technique and sharing his paintings with others. His later paintings show an expression of his interest in color. He is survived by his niece, The Rev. Nancy Harpfer of Harrisville, Michigan; his great nieces Lynn Booth of Chelsea, Michigan, Janis Montei of Portage, Michigan, and Karen Solomon of Cape Coral, Florida. In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by his sister Irene Young, sisters in law Alice Willmarth and Elsie Fuller, and his special cats Sister and Sam. There will be a Memorial Service for Fr. Klatt at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. The Rt. Rev. Todd Owsley presiding; Commitment in the St. Andrews Memorial Garden. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall following the service. Memorials may be given to St. Andrews Episcopal Church Memorial Garden Fund.
