Nancy Dawn Schisler, age 73 of Mikado, MI, passed away at home surrounded by family July 17, 2014. She was born November 29, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Millard & Helen (Kaptain) Spicka. Married to Kenneth Schisler for 52 years Nancy supported Ken in his duty to country and travels worldwide with the USAF. After retirement from the USAF Ken and Nancy started their new adventure farming in Mikado, MI and became actively involved in church and community while raising their family. Nancy was very active in her community. She was one of the founders, co-manager & President of the Alcona St. Vincent DePaul Conference while also being instrumental in securing funding and support, designing, and building of the St. Vincent DePaul store. Has been Secretary of the Parish Council, Chair/Secretary of the Liturgical/Religious Education Committee, and enjoyed the fellowship of the St. Raphael’s Altar Society of which she was president and held several other positions of leadership. She has been Secretary, Vice President, and President of St. Raphael’s DCCW (Diocesan Council of Catholic Women). In addition, she was involved with Right to Life, was a Religious Education teacher, Eucharistic Minister, CSA chairman and chair person of the St Raphael’s Relay for life team logging countless miles around the Alcona High School track. Survived by husband Ken; 2 sons Chuck (Karen) of Mikado, MI, Eric (Rebecca) of St. Charles, IL, step son in law, Ronald Judd of Denver, Co, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother Millard “Mike” Spicka of Knox IN, sister Virginia Krocker of Chicago IL, brothers-in-law, Donald Cravens of Kokomo, IN, and Donald ( Bonnie)Schisler of, Galesburg, Il, sister-in-law, Linda (Peter) Bergmann, of Galesburg ,IL, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son Gregory Schisler, step daughter Diane Judd, parents Millard and Helen (Kaptain) Spicka and stepfather Donovan Hlavac, sister, Ruthann Cravens, sisters-in-law, Margaret Spicka, and Eileen (Donovan) Foutch, and brother-in-laws, Henry Krocker, Robert & Daniel Schisler. Friends may visit Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with a scripture service at 7:00 PM followed by a family Rosary. Visitation continues Monday at St Raphael Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until the funeral mass at 11:00, Father Robert Bissot officiating. Burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay for Life Alcona County. Her example of hard work and unconditional love will leave an impression for years to come.
