Felix Joe Mendyka, 91, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at his home. Born October 1, 1922 to Walter and Mary (Nabozna) Mendyka in Detroit, MI, he lived most of his life in Alcona County. Felix served in the United States Army during WWII, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. On June 12, 1948, he married Edith Joseph in Harrisville, and they were residents of Lincoln. Felix worked as an operating engineer and mechanic, and was able to fix anything. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and tinkering. He operated a sawmill in his backyard, and was always working on something. Felix is survived by his wife, Edith, one daughter, Valerie (Joe) Koss of Gillette WY, two sons, LeRoy (Tammy) Mendyka of Lincoln, and Richard (Jennifer) Mendyka of Gillette WY, six grandchildren, Ryan Mendyka, Lance (Teagon) Mendyka, Nick (Becky) Koss, Richard (Alexis) Mendyka Jr., Mindy Jo Mendyka, and Shane Mendyka, three great grandchildren, Rob, Vincent, and Makala Mendyka, two sisters, Janet (Leon) Michel of Lincoln, and Delores Quick of Harrisville, three sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jerry) Wirgau of Glennie, June Burger of Iowa, and Sharon (Lloyd) Schrade of Mikado, one brother-in-law, Claude Rickel of Glennie, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Zalen, and two brothers, Savery and Joseph Mendyka. Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Barton City. Arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorial donations suggested to Hospice of Michigan.
