John William Oles

John William Oles, 45, of Alpena died Friday August 15, 2008 at Tendercare of Alpena. John was born October 16, 1962 to Dr. William and Barbara (Platte) Oles in Battle Creek He was a lifelong resident of Alpena, attending Alpena Public Schools including Alpena High School. John was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Alpena. He was active in sail boating and had been a crew member of a small work tug boat. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and participated in a number of search and rescue operations in the Thunder Bay Area. He loved to bicycle and drive his dodge truck. John was born with a number of medical and developmental problems. He accepted these problems and overcame them during his life. John was a kidney transplant recipient at University of Michigan Hospital in 1988 and received a second kidney about 10 years later. His mother, Barbara preceded him in death on November 11, 2000. He is survived by his father and step mother, Susan L. Oles of Alpena. Cremation arrangements have been made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
