Janet J. Dettling died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at home, following an extended illness. She was born Janet June MacDougall in Detroit, Michigan on March 26, 1933 to William Curtis and Esther Ruth (Steeneck) MacDougall. She married Charles Dettling on June 4, 1953 at St. David Catholic Church in Detroit. They raised seven children near Ann Arbor. She delivered papers for the Ann Arbor News for seven years, and then worked for Sarns/3M until her retirement in 1989. Upon retirement, they moved to Black River where she became an avid bingo player and enjoyed many friendships she made there. She enjoyed working several summers in the gift shop at Sturgeon Point Lighthouse near Harrisville. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Susan (Ed) Gardner of Interlochen, and seven children: Curt (Brenda) of Milan; Joe (MaryAnn), Bruce (Michelle), Jill (Greg) Bondy all of Manchester; Cheryl (David) Bauer of Tecumseh; Debra (Jim) Barth of Harrisville and Cathy (Pam) of Black River. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Andrew Thompson. Janet is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln where visitation will take place on Thursday August 7, from 4 until 8 pm, with a Wake Service at 7pm and a Rosary Service to follow. Visitation continues on Friday, August 8 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Black River from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11am. Fr. Stan Bereda will officiate. Visitation continues at Borek-Jennings Funeral Home in Manchester on Sunday, August 10 from 4-8 P.M. and Monday from noon until the procession to St. Mary Cemetery at 1 pm. Fr.
