Helen Mae (Dellar) Gabrielson, 84 of 1490 King Road, Harrisville, died peacefully Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at her home. She was born December 7, 1923 in Alcona County to Joseph and Charlotte Dellar. Helen graduated from Oscoda High School in 1941. She attended Bay City Business College in 1942 and graduated with a Business/Secretarial degree. Her expert skills allowed Helen to gain immediate employment at her first position with Austin Construction Co. in Midland, MI until 1943. Helen’s business career expanded from 1943-1946 while working at the Signal Office at Wurtsmith AFB. During World War II, Helen met Myron “Whitey” Gabrielson, her soul mate, stationed at Wurtsmith AFB with the Army Air Corp. They were married in Harrisville on June 4, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1985. After the war, Helen worked at Social Services in Harrisville for a short time before accepting the position as Clerk of Alcona County Road Commission, where she served from 1949-1989. Forty years of service “to the day,” marked Helen’s dedication and expert business skills. Helen was honored with a gala “Roast” retirement party at Lakewood Shores Golf & Country Club. One hundred thirty co-workers, friends, and family gathered to reminisce and entertain with many humorous “Roasts” and emotional farewells. Helen’s social calendar remained full, as she relished each day of retirement. She became an avid golfer. Many happy days were rendered on the golf course until she suffered a stroke December 31, 1996. Helen was a dedicated board member of the Alcona County American Cancer Society and chairman of the Cancer Society Golf Tournament for 6 years at Springport Hills in Harrisville. For many years, Helen also enjoyed bowling on the Women’s Bowling league. Other activities included an active membership of over 50 years with the Alcona County Ladies Auxiliary for Veterans of Foreign Wars. Helen will be fondly remembered and missed by most of her family and all of her friends. She is survived by her children Randy Gabrielson and Renee Lindow and one sister Elsie K. Healy --- Four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, seven nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, David Gabrielson on April 26, 1968, one sister, Hazel Green, and two brothers, Lawrence Dellar and Ernest Dellar. Mrs. Gabrielson is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln where friends may call on Friday, May 30 from 4 pm until 8 pm. Funeral Services will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Springport Cemetery, Harrisville.
