Robert L. (Bob) Freer, 87, of Harrisville, MI, passed away on Sunday morning, October 13, 2013. Mr. Freer was born in 1926 in Harrisville to Mazie Lixie Freer and George Freer. He married Betty Mae Teeple in Harrisville in 1952. Mr. Freer grew up in Harrisville and over his lifetime spent countless hours walking, hunting and fly fishing in the forests, streams and lakes of Alcona County that he loved so much. He also spent many winter evenings expertly tying his own flies for expeditions with his favorite fly fishing partner, Wilson Teeple. During WWII he served in the 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Co. A in the Philippine Islands. As a young man, he worked at both the Alcona County Review Office as a printer and as a projectionist at the ALCO Theater. He left Harrisville for short period, moving to Midland, MI to work as a printer at McKay Press. He and his wife established several successful local businesses including the Freer IGA Store in Curran as well as Freer Realty and The Cove Gift Shop and Ice Cream Parlor in Harrisville. After retiring Mr. Freer enjoyed making furniture in his wood shop. Mr. Freer is survived by his beloved wife Betty Freer, son Brant A. Freer, daughters Robin Freer and Jennifer Harris (Guy) and beloved grandchildren Robert & Jorge Freer and Sophie Harris. He is also survived by his brother Richard Freer (Phoebe) and sister Roni Jo Freer. He was predeceased by his sisters Helena Hickman and Donna Ross, and brother George E. Freer.
