George Edward Pellow Cavin PhD (Ted), of Hubbard Lake, MI, formerly of Union Lake went home to his Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2008. He was born on June 3, 1931, to Donald and Marion Cavin. Beloved husband of Genevieve devoted father to Edward Scott (Eleanor), Steven Charles (Ching), Mark Bradley (Denise), and Michael Brian (Patti) Cavin, Mark Wallace (Kathleen) Woodle and Patricia Anne Stewart. Adored grandfather of 12. Fond brother of Donald (Anne Lee) Cavin, and Dorothy (Walter) Zahrt. A graduate of Wayne State University, Ted went on to receive his Doctorate degree from Oakland University. Ted was a teacher, counselor, and principal at Dublin Elementary, Lasher High School, and West Bloomfield High Schools. A former member of Orchard Lake Presbyterian Community Church, former member of Spruce Presbyterian Church, Ted was currently a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Optimists Club and Chamber of Commerce of West Bloomfield. Ted was president of the Board of Trustees of Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan. He was involved in many community activities, including Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, and the Besser Chorus. Ted and Jennie retired to Hubbard Lake and lived happily with friends, golfing and fishing. They also loved gardening, reading and writing. Ted worked passionately and was instrumental in the development of Alpena Village Retirement Community. He was a wonderful father, an outstanding husband, and a great friend. He will be missed by everyone. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln (www.gilliesfuneralhomes.com). A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations suggested to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Region, or to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
