Thelma E. Cordes, 55, of Barton City died on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. Born on September 17, 1952 in Pontiac to Stanley and Bertha (Houser) Furton. She was a resident of Barton City for the past 27 years. On July 23, 1983 she married Rodney Cordes in Barton City. Thelma was employed by many area shops, she was a Master Gardner raising flowers at Cordes Farms Perennials, was a member of the Barton City Fire Department where she served as secretary, was a State of Michigan certified fire fighter, and a former State of Michigan certified medical first responder. Thelma was active with her friends and family; she was an avid fan of Red Wings Hockey, NASCAR (Tony Stewart #20), deer hunting, bird watching, camping, and Blue Grass Music. Thelma was a gift of life donor. She is survived by her husband, Rodney, one daughter, Tracy (Chris) Alverson of Oscoda, son, Richard Cutler II of Barton City, her mother, Bertha Furton of Waterford, her grandchildren, Sydney Franklin and Jayden Cutler, four brothers, Ronald, Stanley (Margaret), Bruce (Joan) and Fred (Kathy) Furton and many nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Furton, in August of 1994 and two grandsons, Christopher Alverson on December1, 2001 and Richard Cutler III on September 8, 2007. Friends may call at Gillies Funeral home, Lincoln on Friday, April 18, 2008 from 2-9 PM. And on Saturday from 9 A.M. until the funeral at 11:00 A.M... Rev. Laraine Sundin will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Barton City.
