George A. McIntyre

George A. McIntyre, age 90, of Harrisville, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Alpena Regional Medical Center. He was born September 18, 1922 in Harrisville to Arthur and Anna (Armstrong) McIntyre. George married Betty Lukes on January 28 1961. He was a dairy farmer until 1964 and was a rural mail carrier sub, then clerk for the Harrisville Post Office until his appointment as Glennie Postmaster in 1981. In 1983 he was appointed Harrisville Postmaster where he worked until retiring in 1989. George served as president on the Alcona Community Schools Board of Education where he was a member for 21years. He was a member of the Alcona Lodge #292 Free and Accepted Masons for over 65 years and a life member of the Lincoln Chapter# 184 Order of Eastern star, where he served as Worthy Patron for 16 terms. George was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Harrisville. He is survived by one daughter, Wendy (Philip) Larkin of Belleville, Michigan, one son, George L. (Denise) of Durand, Michigan, five grandsons, four step grandchildren, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Beth McIntyre on October, 2 2007, his wife Betty on February 24, 2008 and two brothers Gene and Bill McIntyre. George’s family will receive friends at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Harrisville on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 12:00 P.M. until the Masonic service at 1:30 P.M. followed by the Memorial Service at 2:00 P.M., Rev. Tom Welscott will officiate. Interment of Ashes will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Harrisville. Memorial contributions suggested to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Unit,Westminister Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Alcona Lodge #292 or Lincoln O.E.S.# 184.
