Ruth Isabel Kahn

Ruth Isabel Mills Kahn, 92, died peacefully at Alpena Regional Medical Center on Friday, April 19th 2013.   Ruth was born August 25th, 1920 in Harrisville, Michigan to Charles and Elsa (Peterson) Mills.   She graduated from Alpena High School in 1938.  Ruth married Wellington (Bill) Kahn in 1941.  After more than 50 years of marriage, Bill preceded her in death in 1999.   Ruth was passionate about life and was a very successful businesswoman.  Bill and Ruth owned and operated Bill Kahn Real Estate.  Prior to that, Bill and his brother Gerson owned Kahn’s General Store in Mikado, Michigan.   Ruth was a classy, intelligent, progressive woman who was “two generations ahead of her time.”  Despite numerous physical setbacks, she never complained and was always optimistic about life.  She had a wonderful sense of humor.   She always looked forward to spring when she and Bill traveled to Lakeland, Florida to the Detroit Tigers Spring Training Camp.  She wintered in Lakeland for over 40 years.   Surviving are four children – Jerome (Michele), Michael (Meiko), Jeffrey (Nora) and Rita.  Grandchildren – Aaron, Nicole, Nadia, Meredith, Victor, Valerie and Drew.  Step-grandchildren – James, Stephanie and Morgan and great grandchildren – Meir, Rina Hanna and Aili and special friend Carol Lund as well as numerous friends and relatives.   Along with her husband Bill, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers Stuart and Ralph.   Memorial visitation for Ruth will be at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln on Sunday, April 21st from 2pm-6pm.   A celebration of her life will follow at Cedarbrook Trout Farm this summer.       To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Ruth Isabel Kahn, please visit our flower store.
