Roy C. Vandercook, Sr., age 88, of Mikado died Monday, February 11, 2008 at his home He was born January 8, 1920 in Pontiac to Sabin and Jennie (Sayan) Vandercook. He married Elvira M. Smithers in Archibald, OH on January 25, 1941. Roy served in the Army in WWII in the European, and African Middle Eastern Campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart. A longtime resident of Wayne, he was a brick layer for over 50 years, moving to Gaylord in 1957 where he owned and operated a gas station-restaurant, moving to Mikado in 1959. He was a member of the American Legion, Oscoda Post. Roy is survived by his son Roy (Gladys) Vandercook Jr. of Mikado, four grandchildren, Jackie Odell, Leroy Vandercook, Kimberly Fuller and Rebecca Cherry, six great grandchildren, Ashley Leask, Tiffany Odell, Jeffrey Scamazzo, Christopher Vandercook, Zacha ry Odell and Tyler Cherry, one Great Great Grandson, two sisters, Sarah Wise of Texas and Frances Galloway of New Boston, a brother, Frank Vandercook of Belleville and a sister in law, Verna Vandercook of Newport. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammie Sue Michaud on May 16, 1989, by his wife on September 16, 1996, one sister, Doris Lambert and Two brothers, Oral Vandercook and Dan Vandercook. Visitation isWednesday, Feb. 13, 4-8 PM at Gillies Funeral Home , Lincoln. Funeral service will be Thursday at 1 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Rev. Tedd Galloway will officiate. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West, Westland MI.
