Gail J. Perkins,74, of Lincoln died Friday, August 19, 2005 at home. Born May 10, 1931 in Detroit to Clifford and Mildred (Crawford) Perkins he was raised in Howell. A Korean War Veteran, he served in the Navy and was a Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Alcona Post #6466. Gail graduated from Central Michigan University, later teaching in Novi. He worked for Ford Motor Company and in 1968 moved to Harrisville. Gail taught Jr. High School at Alcona Community Schools from 1968 until retiring in 1992. During that time he was an assistant football coach and sponsored class trips as well as other class activities. On September 15, 1990 he married Peggy Caton, moving to Lincoln. He was a member of the Alcona Community School Board for four years and a long time Future Farmers of America supporter. Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Colonel Dawn Lee DeYoung of Georgia and Beth Ann (Gary Simmons) Perkins-Simmons of Lansing; one son, Stephen (Ida) Perkins of Oregon; two stepsons, Gary Dean of Carmel, Indiana and Shawn Dean of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Amanda Bauer, Ashley DeYoung and Jordan DeYoung; two step grandchildren, Jacob and Cameron Simmons; one sister, Charlene (James) Lester of North Carolina and two brothers, Clarence Perkins of Fowlerville and James(Karen) Perkins of Howell. His family will receive visitors at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln on Friday, August 26, 2005 from 6-9 P.M. and on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the funeral at 12:00 P.M.. Cremation arrangements have been made. Memorials suggested to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Region.
