Elihu W. Swartz, 80, of Mikado, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Saginaw Covenant Cooper Hospital. Born August 27, 1932 in Siren, Wisconsin to George Batiste and Ada Camp, he was raised there and in Northern Michigan, by his mother and stepfather; Clayton Swartz. Elihu served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On December 24, 1953, he married Mary Merkel in Allen Park. Elihu worked as a Truck Driver, retiring from Melling Tool. A longtime resident of Jackson, he retired and moved to Mikado. He enjoyed woodworking, and built his dream log home, where he has lived with his wife for the past several years. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Mikado, and of the American Legion Mikado Post #254. He was a former member of the American Legion Jackson Post #29, and of its Honor Guard. Eilhu was always very proud of his Native American. He is survived by his wife; Mary, seven children; Michael (Tammy) Swartz of Jackson, Shannon Lynn of Jackson, Sheri (Doug) Sarata of Jackson, Kelly (Sean) Mulvihill of Hermosa Beach, CA, Kimberly (John) Lennox of Jackson, Erin Stevens of Jackson, and Karen (Chip) Johnstone of Jackson, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, three sisters; Darlene Eidemueller of Westland, Ellen Karbowski of Kawkawlin, and Sandy VanNorman of Oscoda, and one brother; Lowell Swartz of Jackson. Mr. Swartz is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln where visitation will take place on Friday, October 19 from 5 until 9 pm, with a Parish Prayer Service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 20, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Mikado, from 10 am until the funeral service at 12 pm. Rev. Bob Bissot will officiate.
