Genevieve D. Gauthier, age 84, of Black River died Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Lincoln Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born December 19, 1927 in Black River to Edmund and Agnes (LaFave) Mercier. A lifelong Black River resident, Genevieve married David Gauthier on August 10, 1946. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church of Black River, Alcona Township Treasurer for 50 years and was employed for 17 years at Phelps Collins Air Force Base as a housekeeper. Genevieve is survived by six daughters; Rosemary (Roger) Bouchard of Black River, Sylvia (John) Werner of Alpena, Vicki (Mark) King of Alpena, Lisa (Raymond) Coy of Howell, Tamara (Barton) Cecil of Holly and Sheila (Jim Howell) Gauthier of Black River, one son; Chris (Tina) Gauthier of Black River, 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, two sisters; Isabel (Ben) Gauthier of Clio and Lorraine Mindykowski of Hale, one brother Norman Mercier of Flint and her daughter in law; Laurie Gauthier of Ossineke. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 30, 1997, her son Dennis Gauthier on December 28, 2005 and four brothers. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 4-8 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.. Visitation continues Thursday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Black River from 10:00 A. M. until the mass at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Robert Bissot will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Black River. Memorials in Genevieve’s name are suggested to the Alcona Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
