Hazen James "Jim" Hamather

April 22, 1936 — July 3, 2012

Hazen James “Jim” Hamather of Harrisville and Mikado, died at home July 3, 2012, after a two and a half year bout with Cancer. He was 76. Jim was born April 22, 1936 in Saginaw to the late Hazen Roy and Clyta (Kerr) Hamather. He was raised in that city and Point Lookout, attended public school and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, served at Fort Knox, KY and Okinawa before returning home to study Accounting at Saginaw Business Institute. For the next 29 years he was employed in the Wholesale Forest Products – Wood Treating Trade throughout Michigan, Indiana and the South. Jim married Mary Ann Forster, May 19, 1959 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Saginaw. They were blessed with five children; Michael (Amy Vescio) Hamather of Zionsville, IN, Patrick (Kim) Hamather of Carmel, IN, Gregory (Jeanie) Hamather of Indianapolis, IN, Jamie (John) Carter of Lewisville, IN and Conrad (Raphael) Hamather of Chicago, IL. Jim and Mary moved to Harrisville in 1987. The following year he was hired by the City as Harbor Master, a job he loved and served well for 21 years. He, along with his crews of dockhands strived to make the Harbor of Refuge a most welcome port on Lake Huron…. They succeeded. Surviving Jim is his wife of 53 years, Mary, their five children and nine grandchildren. Siblings; Malcolm “Mac” Hamather and Helen Hamather Kanaly, of Saginaw. Sister-in-laws; Jane Forster Gnotek (Mary’s twin) and Joan Gregson, of Saginaw, and Janet Forster of Bellefontain, OH. He leaves behind a handful of loyal friends who were always there and “Miss Molly” his Springer spaniel, who will miss their daily walk in the woods. The family wishes to thank the Ann Arbor VA Hospital, Oncology/Radiation department. VA Clinic, Oscoda and Hospice of the Sunrise Shore, Alpena….. There are indeed Angels among us. No funeral is planned. The family and close friends will gather in late summer to share memories of this loving man. Your prayers and thoughts are appreciated. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, Michigan.
