Otis Goodwin, 95, of Harrisville, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at his home. Born October 15, 1916 to Oscar and Elizabeth (Allen) Goodwin in Parma, Missouri, he was raised there. He began his insurance career in Ferndale, MI. He met Ann Tipler in Luzerne, MI while on a hunting trip. On December 21, 1946, they were married in Luzerne, and they were residents of Mio. They moved to Harrisville in 1948, and Otis started the Goodwin Insurance Agency, where he sold insurance and real estate. Otis served as Mayor of the City of Harrisville from April 1962 until February 1965. During his term as mayor, he got Barbershop Quartets to come to Harrisville over Labor Day weekend, starting Harmony Weekend. While in Mio, Otis served as the first president of the Mio Lions Club. He was a past president of the Harrisville Lions. Otis was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting and especially fishing, and was a skilled woodworker. Otis was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife; Ann, three daughters; Linda Goodwin of Chicago, IL, Judy (Robert) Rose of Rochester, MI, and Sandra (Tim) Reed of Greenbush, one son; Patrick (Jodi) Goodwin of Midland, six grandchildren; Kathryn and Matthew Rose, Kaila and Joseph Hartigan, and Michael, Ryan, Adam, and Alex Goodwin, and two great granddaughters; Genevieve and Savannah Rose. Otis’ family will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 1-4 pm at their home, 216 N. State Street, Harrisville, Mi.
