William Collins Gutzman, 69, of Harrisville, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at his home. Born August 10, 1942 to Gustav and Dorothy (Collins) Gutzman in Marquette, MI he was raised there. During his youth, he worked with his father logging in the Upper Peninsula. After high school, he worked for the railroad as a brakeman, and out west at a frozen vegetable plant and as a fireman. Bill attended Northern Michigan University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Arts. A devoted teacher, Bill taught Industrial Arts in Utica, Rogers City, and at Alcona High School from 1968 until his retirement in 1996, where he coached Jr. High and Junior Varsity basketball. He also taught a night shop class for the community for many years. He was an active member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church Bill was a distinguished marksman, and was one of the top 100 shooters in the country. He taught 4-H riflery for many years. He enjoyed downhill skiing, water skiing, riding his quad, traveling, fishing, camping, and woodworking. Bill is survived by two daughters; Alyce (Mark) Davis of Old Lyme CT, Christy Gutzman of Hubbard Lake, three sons; Bryan (Julie) of Prior Lake MN, and Todd (Kyla) Gutzman of Lincoln, and Steve (Gina) Edwards of Anchorage AK, ten grandchildren; William, Calvin, Kyle, Star, Nichole, Chelsi, Dakota, Austin, and Preston Gutzman, and Brandon Jennings, one brother; Gary (Loraine) Gutzman of Marquette, and his best friend companion; Glenna Spencer, one niece Lisa Gutzman, and one nephew Keith (Lisa) Gutzman. He was preceded in death by his wife; Karen Edwards on June 11, 2009. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11 am at the Lincoln United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Rev. Tracy Brooks will officiate. Memorial donations suggested to the Lincoln United Methodist Church. Cremation arrangements were made by Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
