Angus A. McGuire, 95, went to be with his Lord, August 23, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 26, 1911. Angus resided in the Mikado area most of his life, but as a child lived in the Hillman area and as a young man in Alpena. He had served the Lord in the Mikado Community of Christ Church as a deacon for over fifty years. His commitment to God, family and community modeled his life. He began his career at 18 years old, purchasing a dump truck and working road construction. On August 29, 1936 Angus married Beryl Johnston near Onaway. He operated a sand and gravel business until 1960, worked in Alpena two years at the Wyandotte Chemical facility and later went to work at the Alcona County Road Commission, retiring in 1974. He was a farmer most of his life. His life was marked by hard work, honesty and integrity. Angus was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Atchison on February 28,1992. His wife of 67 years, Beryl, preceded him in death on June 22, 2003. Surviving are five sons Robert (Valerie) of Mikado, Marvin (Char) of Mikado, Gerald (Patricia) of Grand Rapids, Lanny (Pamela) of Black River, Jay(Wendy)of Oscoda, two sisters, Alice Harmon of lincoln and Gertrude(Clifford)McDonough of Mikado, a brother, Delmar McGuire of Lincoln and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. and 12 P.M. Sunday until the funeral at 2 P.M. His grandsons Larry and Darwin McGuire will officiate. Burial will be in Mikado Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Region.
