Alfred (Mike) Mikazes,86, of Mikado, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at home. He was born September 13, 1925 to John and Tillie (Morkvich) Mikazes in Fitchburg MA where he was raised. He joined the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII including battle for Iwo Jima. He later joined the Air Force, retiring at the conclusion of his tour in Viet Nam. On June 21, 1962 he married Una Merkel. They have been longtime residents of Mikado. After 20 years in the Navy and Air Force, Mike was employed for 20 years by the D & M Railroad where he worked as a relief agent. He was a member of the Mikado Goodfellows and active in its reorganization and was a charter member of the Mikado American Legion Post #254. He is survived by his wife and one son Joel (Dawn) Mikazes of Harrisviile and two grandchildren, Hannah and Antavius. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. His framily will receive guests from 10 A.M. Until the mass at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in MIkado. Rev. Lawrence Boks will officiate. His ashes will be interred at St. Raphael Cemetery. Everyone is invited to a meal which will be served at the Mikado Civic Center following the mass.Memorials suggested to Mikado Goodfellows. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
