Leon Richard London, 80, of Mikado, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at his home. Born November 17, 1931 to James and Dora (Trowbridge) London, in Standwood, Michigan, he was raised there. On January 14, 1956, he married Ruth Westra in Kalamazoo, where they were residents until moving to Mikado in 1979. Leon was proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant after 20 years. He belonged to the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #3735, Oscoda and the American Legion Post #274 in Oscoda, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4141 in Barton City. He is survived by three sons; James R. London II of Mikado, Dale (Debbie) London of Kalamazoo, and Richard London of Harrisville, three daughters; Ruth Ann (Pat) Crill, Diane (Bobby) London and Flora (Ken) Spears of Kalamazoo, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, three sisters; Thelma Horton, Marjorie (Wilbur) Forsythe and Barbara (Donald) Ellis. He was preceded in death by his wife on August 21, 2011, grandson; Jimmy Douglas, three brothers; Dale and Arthur London and Clarence Boghart. A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at 3:00 PM at the Mikado Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Party will follow at the Oscoda American Legion. Cremation arrangements were made by Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to Hospice of Michigan or the American Cancer Society.
