Robert James Milligan, 61, of Harrisville died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at home. He was born September 19, 1950 in Alpena to Robert and Illa (Hough) Milligan. He was raised in Lincoln and graduated from Alcona High School in 1968. Robert joined the Us Air Force in 1969. While in the Air Force he served in the Vietnam War as a voice specialist and interpreter. He was awarded the Air Medal for participating in aerial flights from March to July 1971. He was discharged in 1972. He enlisted in the Navy in 1978. He served on the USS White Plains, in Adak Alaska, Bangor Washington, and in Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean before being discharged in 1983. Living in Detroit and Ann Arbor, he was employed by the Scooter Company and Various IT Companies. He moved to Harrisville in 2007. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 282, Ypsilanti and the Lincoln Library Photography Club. Survivors include his father, Robert, his sister, Donna Belt, both of Harrisville, his nephew, Kirk Belt of Lincoln, his niece Karen Bila of Saginaw and two grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln with Pastor James Lockard officiating. His family will receive visitors beginning at 6:00 P.M. that evening. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Michigan or the Cancer Center of Alpena.
