Joan D. Somers

Joan D. Somers, 63, of Harrisville, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born August 26, 1947, to David and Maxine (Pettit) Tait in Harrisville, she was a lifelong resident of Alcona County. On November 7, 1980, she married Jim Barkley, and they were residents of Harrisville. Joan enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband; Jim Barkley, daughter; Melissa Somers, two granddaughters; Taylor Sobeck and Chloe Bunton, three sisters; Judy (Pat) Reames, Geraldine Casey and Sharon (Bill) Burnham, one brother; George (Terri) Tait, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son; Kenneth Somers on March 29, 1995, two sisters; Diane Johnson and Joanne Rogers, and three brothers-in-law; Dale Johnson, Jim Casey, and Pete Rogers. Mrs. Somers is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 1 pm. Visitation will begin at 12 noon.
