Jack D. Ashford beloved husband to Mary died January 7, 2011 at his home in Harrisville, Michigan. He was born September 30th, 1920 in Owosso, Michigan to Stephen and Wilhelmina Ashford. He was the youngest of eight children; all have preceded him in death. Jack married Mary Jean McRae October 30th, 1948 in Greenbush, Michigan. He is survived by his wife and their four children, Stephen and wife Ann, John and wife Dawn, David and wife Pam, Marilyn and husband Patrick Gauthier, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Jack had many accomplishments in his life; from 1942 to 1945 he served in the US Marines as a Private 1st Class. Upon returning from the Marines, he continued his education at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and was a master Silversmith, Weaver and Potter. After receiving fine references from Penland, he was accepted at CranBrook Institute of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he graduated with honors. After moving “Up North” he eventually started his own construction business, Ashford Builders, and has built or remodeled many of the homes in the area. Jack also served on the Harrisville Township Board for many years. His greatest accomplishment was his loving faith in God that he passed on to his children and to many that knew him. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Gillies Funeral Home, Harrisville from 12 Noon until the funeral at 2:00 P.M.. Rev. Ed Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Springport Cemetery, Harrisville. Memorials suggested to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Unit.
